Brockenhurst Train Station

Train Station

There’s been a station at Brockenhurst since the mid 19th century – 1847 to be exact. It’s on both the South West Main Line from London Waterloo to Weymouth, as well as on the Lymington Branch Line. It is managed and served by South Western Railway and it is also served by CrossCountry trains.

It’s won awards, you know – in 2009 it won National Rail Award for best medium-sized station, and also winner of a National Cycling Award, for a system which informs passengers of where cycle spaces are on approaching trains, allowing them to speed boarding. Clever, eh? There are also toilets and baby changing facilities.

Brockenhurst Train Station Car Parking

For a medium-sized station, Brockenhurst isn’t left lacking in parking spaces – there are 240 to be precise (no, we haven’t personally counted them), and it’s open 24 hours a day. When it comes to paying for your parking, an off-peak ticket will cost you £4 and a peak ticket £8.10. Monthly passes are just under £100.

If you want to leave the car at home, don’t despair – there are 122 cycling spaces and those all-important lockers for your cycling gear when you’re parked and locked up.

Whether it’s a quick jaunt to Lyndhurst or a day trip to London, you’ll need some sustenance… and the good news is there are plenty of great places to eat nearby before you set off from Brockenhurst Train Station.

Close at hand, The Drift at Brockenhurst is a fab family and dog-friendly pub restaurant with a menu packed with goodies – from small plates to classics to burgers and buns, created from daily deliveries of picked-that-morning vegetables, freshly caught fish from in-shore day boats, free-range meat from local farms and eggs from happy hens. There are also lunchtime treats aplenty at Beaulieu Inn – not least their amazing afternoon tea – Coronation Turkey sandwiches, hog roast and stuffing sausage rolls, marzipan fruit cake, St Clement’s posset and of course scones with strawberry jam and Dorset clotted cream. We’re ‘cream first’ if you wondered…

Bartley Lodge is another great choice – whether it’s light bites, afternoon tea or a full-on Sunday roast; Burley Manor offers a bit of everything – a Mediterranean-influenced menu which follows the seasons and sources local ingredients as much as possible – be that local pigs or Burley venison.
