Brockenhurst Restaurants

Eat & Drink

Described by the local estate agent as ‘Britain’s Most Beautiful Place to Live’, it’s no wonder so many visitors flock to Brockenhurst.

The village itself – the largest in the New Forest in terms of population – is worth a visit for its charming main street, where it’s not uncommon to see the local animals taking a wander. It’s also a great stopping off point for the likes of the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Buckler’s Hard – and the New Forest itself, in all its glory. Whether you’re canoeing at New Forest Activities or admiring the classic cars at Beaulieu, you’ve got to eat – and happily, we have a host of great restaurants near Brockenhurst for you to enjoy.

Beautiful bites at Beaulieu

Just over 10 minutes from Brockenhurst, you’ll find yourself in the picture postcard village of Beaulieu. Not only is it home to the famous National Motor Museum, but it’s where you’ll find Beaulieu Inn and its countryside pub/restaurant, The Drift – great pub classics as well as lunch, quick bites, and the best breakfasts we know.

All are welcome – relaxed and informal, The Drift is perfect for young families, larger family groups, or those who want to enjoy the company of their four-legged-companion.

At The Drift, we’re committed to sourcing ingredients from as close a radius as possible and more importantly, sustainably, as we have been recognised by the New Forest Marque for championing local produce on our menus. From picked-that-morning vegetables, freshly caught fish from in-shore day boats, free-range meat from local farms and eggs from happy hens, we’re so pleased to be able to support small artisan producers and their families.

So what’s on the menu? How about a ½ pint of prawns, buttered bread, lemon and mayonnaise; Chalk stream smoked trout, lemon, watercress, capers; a great selection of burgers; The Drift Brioche – chargrilled steak, crispy onions, gherkin, mustard mayo and chips; vegan Moroccan spiced vegetables, quinoa and couscous, spiced tomato sauce and mint yoghurt; slow roast shoulder of Romsey lamb, confit potatoes, heritage carrots, mint red currant and port pan juices. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

The afternoon teas, Sunday lunches and children’s menu are every bit as good… and we haven’t even mentioned the ‘Afters’ like Bread & Butter pudding, Drift ‘mess’ and local cheeses…

Bartley’s best of British

Head 15 minutes down the road in the direction of Cadnam, via Lyndhurst, and you’ll find Bartley Lodge, our Grade-II listed 18th century country house in eight tranquil acres of landscaped grounds.

The menus are bursting with best-loved British dishes using the finest locally-sourced produce – from delicious, well-aged meats which feature heavily on Sundays, to fresh salads and vegetables that appear in our seasonal sides, to the free-range happy hen eggs we serve you at breakfast. It’s important we know our food’s provenance inside out – whether it’s appearing on the main menu, afternoon tea, Sunday lunch, or the children’s menu.

So what kind of mouthwatering delights await? How about these for a little taster: twice baked cheese soufflé, celery, and grape salad; wild boar, venison & pistachio terrine, spiced bramble apple chutney; Bartley fish and chips, crushed peas, tartar sauce; pot roast pheasant, red wine jus shredded brussel sprouts with smoked bacon, fondant potato.

If you’re not salivating by now, there’s something wrong!

Feast at Forest Lodge

In the heart of Lyndhurst, just 10 minutes down the road from Brockenhurst, you’ll find Forest Lodge, our townhouse hotel with elegant Georgian architecture and urban-style interiors. It also houses the award-winning 1820 Grill and Brasserie where prime, hand-cut steaks, farmed in the Hampshire countryside and aged for 28 days take centre stage alongside a mix of mouth-watering modern brasserie classics – warm asparagus, poached egg, crispy prosciutto, shaved parmesan; salmon spring roll, citrus spinach salad, cucumber & sticky soy sauce; seafood bouillabaisse, prawns, squid, mussels, new potatoes, crustacean broth. That’s just a tempting glimpse of the delights you can expect – and there’s afternoon tea and a fab children’s menu to explore too.

Burley belters

Travel to Burley, about 20 minutes from Brockenhurst, and you’ll find two more of our great places to eat – Burley Manor and Moorhill House.

Burley Manor, built in 1852, is an architecturally stunning baronial-style manor house set within an 800-hundred year old estate and surrounded by rolling countryside. It’s also home to some rather fantastic food – the chefs prepare slow food and Mediterranean sharing dishes with ingredients sourced from the very best producers and cooked in the restaurant’s wood-fired oven.

Can we tempt you with the likes of Crispy Poole Bay oysters, nduja, lime; Portland crab & bone marrow tortellini, bisque, sea herbs; New Forest beetroot, smoked honey, Blue Vinny, watercress; Burley Manor venison, smoked mushroom, parsnip, kale; Wild mushroom risotto, Old Winchester, pickled shimeji, duck yolk. What’s more, there’s afternoon tea (including a vegan option) and Sunday lunch.
