Woodland Walk In The New Forest

Brockenhurst Events

Events

The New Forest is like the house in that song by Madness – there’s always something happening… except in our case it’s not ‘usually quite loud’. There’s a smorgasbord of things to do and see – from wildlife walks to food shows to plenty of exhibitions. There’s even the chance to meet Santa on the river, if that floats your boat, so to speak…

Bee In Flowers

The greatest show, man: exhibitions

Unsettled Landscapes
Running until early January at St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery in Lymington, Unsettled Landscapes: The Art of the Eerie is just that – photographs, illustrations and paintings on the subject of ‘eerie’ based on four themes: Ancient Landscapes; Unquiet Nature; Absence/Presence; and Atmospheric Effect.

Bond in Motion – No Time To Die Exhibition
If you were lucky enough to see the original Bond In Motion exhibition at the National Motor Museum, then this is a long overdue follow-up treat. Bond in Motion – No Time To Die Exhibition (which runs until November 2022) is a brand new exhibition of iconic cars, gadgets and costumes from the latest 007 film. Licence to thrill, indeed…

Wildlife Wanderings
When it comes to photography, few can touch David Bailey; his name is intrinsically linked to the art, but not instantly wildlife. In Wildlife Wanderings, which runs at the New Forest Heritage Centre in Lyndhurst until early January 2022, you’ll be able to see his incredible wildlife portraits. A welcome return to Lyndhurst following his first exhibition in autumn 2019.

Woodland Walk In The New Forest

Walks on the wild side

Halloween Wildlife Adventure
If you’re after something a little different this autumn, how about a Halloween Wildlife Adventure? This guided walk from Beachern Wood Car Park weaves through ancient woodland to the eerie dead forest, where you can watch the sun set. Along the way, look out for spooky fungus and ancient trees while exploring various myths and New Forest folklore.

New Forest Walking & Cycling Festival 2021
The best of both worlds come together at the New Forest Walking & Cycling Festival 2021 which runs from mid October until November 7th. Now in its ninth year, there will be expert-guided walks, as well as everything from forest bathing to fungi spotting, bird watching to ranger rambles – exploring areas of the New Forest you may not have seen before, highlighting the unique countryside, wildlife, culture and history of this internationally-important landscape.

New Forest Discovery Walk
Head for Emery Down and one of their regular New Forest Discovery Walks – a great way to explore the area and spot the myriad of wonderful flora and fauna which call it home. Check the website for the various dates.

Food and fun

New Forest Eats ‘n’ Treats
It’s food glorious food at New Forest Eats ‘n’ Treats 2021, which takes place at Brockenhurst College in late November. Now in its fourth year, it includes a food and craft market, demonstrations, live music and a pop-up food court with a bar. Sounds good to us!

Christmas Canoe Paddle
If you want something a bit different from crackers and carols, how about a Christmas Canoe Paddle with New Forest Activities? Running from December 11th to 23rd, it’s a fun-filled 90 minute guided tour of the river’s beautiful nature reserve in Canadian-style canoes. You’ll meet Santa in his boat, all the children receive a present – and there’s the added bonus of hot chocolate to keep you warm.
