With a new year fast approaching, we thought it was only appropriate to share the year’s exciting New Forest events so you can block out your calendar far in advance. From interesting talks to art and photography exhibitions, there are a number of events, attractions and activities to draw you into Ashurst and the nearby areas next year – and here’s just a top five for the first half of the year to get you started:
From the 1st to 9th January (between 10am and 4pm) at the New Forest Heritage Centre in Lyndhurst, take in Wildlife Wanderings, a photography exhibition by David Bailey. This is the second award-winning exhibition by the photographer, following the highly successful first one in Autumn 2019. Making regular appearances on television, radio and a feature writer for magazines, David has a reputation for capturing incredible images and writing lively features. Here David will be displaying new photographs as well as old favourites such as ‘A Bad Hare Day’.
On select dates throughout January, travel down the rabbit hole and join us for the Dynamic Youth Theatre performance which presents Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr, based on the fast-paced take on the classic tale. The performance is based just five minutes away, at the Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Ashurst.
On 27th January, fans of the Titanic can enjoy a talk by Dr Cheryl Butler – a story about the infamous ship told from the perspective of the crew, and includes personal family documents relating to crew which were lost, saved and found. The presentation also looks at the ‘afterlife’ of the famous ocean liner in films, books and songs. Refreshments will be available in the evening and the event is for 16+ years. It runs between 7pm and 9pm at the Eling Tide Mill Experience.
Calling all shoppers – on select dates in February and March, take a 15-minute trip to experience the Hythe Market which features fine produce, delicacies, flowers,quality gifts and much more. Enjoy a bustling atmosphere and get to know the long-standing traders whilst mooching around the stalls and stands for fabulous finds.
This event is for all of those arts and crafts lovers! On April 24th, enjoy the well-established 10-year-old J & A Artisan Country Craft Fair, where everything is handmade. It’s open all day from 10am on Lyndhurst High Street, which is just eight minutes from Ashurst.
