Visiting Ashurst for a break in the New Forest and find yourself wandering around the village, not sure where to go? In between the adventure activities, if you’re looking for more of a leisurely way to spend a morning or afternoon, then perhaps a spot of retail therapy is for you? It’s time to saddle up at a cycle shop, wander through a garden centre or seek the ultimate bargain in a charity shop, here’s a whistle stop tour of all of the shops in and around the town:
Self catering accommodation is extremely popular, not to mention needing a convenience store to fill those baskets ready for a delicious picnic in the beautiful New Forest. You’ll find all you need at the various village food stores: Morrisons, Co-Op, Waitrose, Tescos, Lidl etc.
If it’s local produce you’re after, then consider a stop at the Longdown Farm Shop, which is open daily between 10am and 4pm; here you’ll find a range of locally sourced produce, including meat, fresh fruit and vegetables, a range of award-winning cheeses, New Forest ice cream and so much more!
Ashurst is proud to be home to a wonderful selection of charity shops, so be sure to pop your head in and support some great causes featuring a treasure trove of exciting finds at one of the following thrift stores in the area: Ichthus Charity Shop, Barnardo’s Shops, Scope, Age UK and more.
Be sure to check out some of the antique stores in the area too. At Rag & Bone Revival, you’ll find highly individual, quality pieces with added style; Robins Nest and Vintage on the Vine are both great vintage stores, and Clubhouse Interiors have an array of fine antique pieces. What’s better, collectibles are available in our showrooms and markets such as decorative pieces, decorative antique seating, painted antiques, ceramics, vintage movie props, antique luggage and country home antiques. Their pieces date back to the early 17th century.
For all the green-fingered visitors, there are several handy garden centres within a 15-minute drive from Ashurst; Dobbies Garden Centre, Cadnam; Setley Ridge Garden Centre in Brockenhurst; and Barrow Hill Nurseries in Southampton. Sometimes there’s no better way to spend a sunny afternoon than to explore a garden centre wandering around some dreamy gardens, gaining inspiration to create some green-fingered magic in your own garden.
Let’s face it, you simply can’t go on a fabulous break away without picking up a little something to remember the trip by, or a memorable gift for your loved ones at home. You’re in luck, as there are plenty of souvenir shops dotted all over the New Forest. From arts & crafts at Emerald Crafts, gifts from World Window, The Perfect Gift Company or Burley Gift Shop to The Fudge Shop and The Fordingbridge Bookshop, you’re bound to find a special keepsake for even the most hard-to-buy-for person on your list!
Trust us when we say the one place you’ll need to visit whilst in the New Forest is a decent bike shop – ahead of all the cycling adventures on your break. Ashurst is on the doorstep of some incredible villages and locations within the New Forest which have bike shops for all levels of skill and expertise. Try New Forest Leisure Cycling in Burley, The Woods Cyclery in Lyndhurst and Cyclexperience in Brockenhurst.
If your furry friends are on the family trip too (of course they are!) then you might be looking for a pet shop – so why not try Jollyes Pet Stores, a fantastic local store in Ashurst – or just 15 minutes away is Karen’s Pet Market and Everything Pets in Lymington; whether you’re welcoming a new family pet, have run out of the essentials or want to treat yours on holiday.
