Lyndhurst is home to a variety of exciting golf courses for you to play – making it the ideal base for your next golfing trip. Staying with us means being in close proximity to the perfect place to say cheers to a great round of golf (hopefully!) with a drink in the evening; The Drift pub and restaurant is always a firm favourite amongst the golfers that come to The New Forest, and is just 11 minutes away from Lyndhurst’s cracking clubs.
Situated between the picture-postcard village of Beaulieu and Lyndhurst in the heart of the New Forest, The Drift has a welcoming and relaxed environment featuring hearty hospitality – and did we mention award-winning food! Just what you need after a long day on the course!
One of the most popular things to do in Lyndhurst is to enjoy a game of golf. There are a few golf courses in and around the area as well as driving ranges for you to get in a bit of practice and perfect your swing before taking on the course. With courses to suit all playing abilities – whether a beginner or a low handicapper – you’ll find an incredible golf club to visit.
The New Forest Golf Club is located in Lyndhurst at the heart of the New Forest. Open to both members and visitors, the 18 hole course was established in 1888 making it the second oldest golf club in Hampshire. The New Forest Golf Club boasts a testing game of golf for all standards with a course that is rich in natural beauty with stunning scenery. Some say you may even spot a New Forest pony or cattle whilst you’re playing – now that’s a unique experience!
All year round there are a host of exciting competitions to keep an eye out for and the club also has a state-of-the-art golf studio to measure your clubs, improve your game and even virtually play on the best golf courses from around the world!
There’s nothing major to worry about when it comes to etiquette as it’s a friendly club that encourages a relaxed dress code to suit the modern game.
Another really popular choice is Bramshaw Golf Club. This club situated near Lyndhurst right in the heart of the New Forest is not only the oldest in Hampshire but has not one but two courses to play. The Forest Course, which was the original course, was built in around 1865 and the second course, the Manor Course, is a newer course set in landscaped parkland surrounded by mature trees.
Open to both visitors and its members, Bramshaw Golf Club, is another really friendly and welcoming golf club with competitions for adults and juniors all through the year. It also offers golf coaching for junior golfers just starting out.
A little further out from Lyndhurst (a 13-minute drive) Brockenhurst Golf Club is an additional club nestled away in the beautiful New Forest. Situated in the village of Brockenhurst close to Lymington, this club prides itself in being a friendly club, for members and visiting guests and is ideal for families, gentlemen, ladies and juniors. The 18-hold course is an England Golf Champion Venue.
Last but certainly not least is Burley Golf Club. Although it’s 15 minutes outside of Lyndhurst, this club is a popular one for golfers visiting the New Forest. A nine-hole course with 18 tees, Burley Golf Club has an extremely interesting heritage having survived two World Wars. With a 200-yard practice area, a first class putting green and an academy for newcomers, there is much to enjoy at this golf club.
Top tip: if you’re playing this course consider staying at our Burley Manor Hotel. It’s just a 3 minute drive or a 10 minute stroll to the club making it the ultimate spot to eat, drink and rest your head during your golf break.
There’s also a driving range in the area if you’re looking to get in some practice and hit a few balls before your big golf day out or tournament. It’s located at Bramshaw Golf Club and features a 300-yard practice range. Don’t forget to bring your own practice balls though, as the range won’t supply these..
