The Best Walks In Milford-On-Sea

Walks

There are several great reasons you’d want to visit Milford-On-Sea, including scenic routes, wonderful views and lots of fresh forest air. We have done a little research into the best walks in Milford-On-Sea so all you have to do is choose a route and get going!

Milford on Sea pier

Hordle Cliffs

If you’re looking for a diverse walk where you can choose between an easy and a more challenging option, then this walk is for you. The Hordle Cliffs are just west of the Milford-On-Sea village centre and are perfect for steady walks on a sealed surface of fine gravel embedded in the tarmac to make your walk smoother.

There are 2 possible routes to this walk. Option one is set at a low difficulty level of 1 and is a relaxing walk along the cliff top. There are regular benches along the coastal path in case you need to take a breather and there are also wooden and brick shelters with seating. This is a very easy walk that rewards you with breathtaking views over the Solent and also gives you the choice to choose the length of your walk as there are routes you can take to cut your walk short.

Option 2 is at a high difficulty level of 3 and is much more challenging when you choose to continue along the promenade to the east where the route becomes awkward, caused by a stretch where the promenade curves seaward to pass around the White House. This walk consists of steeper slopes.

Solent Way

If you’re looking for a more demanding walk, then Solent Way is the way!

This coastal route is 60 miles long, starting from the seaside town of Milford-On-Sea and finishing at Emsworth Harbour. On the way, you’ll pass great amounts of riverside pubs and restaurants to rest your feet and grab a bite to eat. You can also take in brilliant views, deserted coastal marshes, promenades and shingle beaches.

If you’d prefer a circular route, there are plenty of circular walks in Milford-On-Sea. The Hurst Spit to Hurst Lighthouse loop is a 2.1 mile circular route in Milford-On-Sea. This easy walk takes you out to the end of Hurst Spit and you’ll also pass through a variety of habitats, including salt marsh, woodland, and shingle beach. At the end of the spit, you’ll be rewarded with views of Hurst Castle, the Needles, and the Isle of Wight.

Another circular walk route is the Keyhaven Harbour – Sturt Pond loop – 3.7 miles. This walk takes you from Milford on Sea to the pretty village of Keyhaven, via the Milford crabbing bridge and Sturt Pond. The pond is a great spot for birdwatching, and you may also see deer and ponies grazing in the fields.

Discover Milford on Sea’s Hidden Woodland

Just a little over 2 miles (approximately 90 minutes), this easy woodland route will let you explore the village woodland, trees and fauna. Sturdy footwear is required for this route and it is also suitable for dogs on leads and children!

Sturt Pond

We understand that long walks aren’t for everyone, sometimes all we need is a quick refresh to clear our heads and feel inspired by the views along the way.

Enjoy views of the Isle of Wight and the Solent on this 1.9 mile walk along a shingle beach. There are several benches on the promenade overlooking the gorgeous lapping ocean so be sure to stop and take in the views.

There are no significant slopes on this walk, so rest assured you can move forward with ease!
