Shopping

The lively village of Milford-on-Sea is a real gem, bursting with character and with so much to enjoy. Its vibrant seaside shopping scene and busy High Street provide a fun and inspiring way to meet new people, enjoy some delicious local produce, and take home a souvenir or two to bring back fond memories of your adventures in the New Forest.

All our New Forest Collection restaurants are all about locally sourced, seasonal produce, and each of our beautiful hotels pays homage to all their natural beauty, creativity and inspiration offering itself up to us right here in this gorgeous part of the world. Milford-on-Sea is the perfect place to make the most of all that local originality and charm, so let’s take a little stroll together right now, and see what it has to offer…

Village veg

Foodie Heaven

We’ve got to kick off with the fantastically named Pickled Weasel on The High Street. If you’re near the village green, stay alert for sumptuous aromas luring you in to try its legendary homemade scotch eggs, local charcuterie, freshly-baked savouries, coffee and cakes, all perfect for a picnic at the beach.

Another hub for fantastic picnic-worthy fare is The Rockpool. They boast an incredible array of the finest fromage you can sample at the nibble bar, and will gladly pack you up a selection for you to try.

You can pick up everyday sundries at the Co-op next door too, or at The Spar on Shorefield Road, as well as great veggies at the aptly named Village Veg on Church Hill.

Royal Enfield motorbike

Treasure Hunt

And if you’re looking for a bargain, who knows what you might discover in The Village Charity Shop next door? Fab if you’ve finished your holiday reading and are looking for a new(ish) book to snuggle up with, and of course, the random but somehow perfect purchase you didn’t know you needed or indeed wanted, until there it is…The Community Charity Shop is also right there in the village on the High St, and on the road towards Lymington – itself a haven for charity shop enthusiasts – you’ll find Cancer Research UK. Take things to the next level by getting a little more serious and go back in time by heading over to the Milford-on-Sea treasure trove that is Noah Valentine Antiques – if it’s good enough for TV’s Salvage Hunters and BBC Antiques Road Trip, then it’s good enough for us!

Everton Nurseries restaurant

Laying down roots

There’s something about a good garden centre that makes you feel that all is right with the world. Everton Nurseries, only a mile or two down the road towards Lymington, is a lovely independent, family-owned garden centre where you can stroll at your leisure, enjoy their super selection of plants, garden ornaments and furniture and maybe pick up a little something in the gift shop to take home.

A little further away, on the Lymington Road towards Brockenhurst you’ll come to Setley Ridge, another traditional garden centre and nursery. As well as a wide selection of beautiful plants and shrubs, they offer unique garden ornaments, knick knacks and curios – and do pop into their onsite farm shop that is always stocked full of delicious, seasonal local produce.

Biscuit house at Milford on Sea

What a gift

For more present ideas, check out No.64 Biscuit House for all sorts of desirable objects and yummy gifts for family or friends; think candles, textiles, homeware and accessories. You could also take home an original artwork for yourself from Tradewinds Gallery where they champion local artists’ ceramics, jewellery, paintings and photographs, or pick up (carefully does it…) a bespoke piece from the Vinegar Pottery Studio as a delightful memento of your stay.

Dog with toy in pool

Waggy tails guaranteed

If you’ve been staying at one of our New Forest Collection pooch-friendly hotels near Milford-on-Sea, perhaps your own furry friend came with you and is already enjoying all the delights that staying with us entails (no pun intended…). Treat them even further to a little something at Paddy’s Pool in the Milford Trading Estate – it has a really well-stocked pet shop inside, with a wide range of foods in case you’ve run out of their favourites, plus all sorts of accessories and toys.

Cycling in the New Forest

Pedal Power

Whether you’re a beginner or a real cycle enthusiast, there are plenty of great routes to explore in the New Forest. Our friends at New Forest Cycling in Ringwood will gladly hire out mountain or hybrid bikes, gravel, tandem, or even an off-road electric bike, if that’s what you fancy, and want to make your way to Milford-on-Sea on two wheels. This is perfectly possible if you’re staying in one of our gorgeous venues, all just over an hour’s cycle away.

And if your own trusty two-wheeled transport requires a little TLC whilst you’re at the coast? Bicycle Jack’s, based just down the road from Milford-on-Sea in Lymington, offers full services, little tweaks, and a superb range of accessories from trusted brands.
