Beaches in New Milton from above

Mudeford Sandbank – Sandy Beach

Sandy beaches are a rare treat in and around the Milford-On-Sea area. Most beaches here consist of pebbles or are a mixture of stone and sand, making them shingle beaches. But there’s a hidden gem that’s only a 20 minute drive from Milford-On-Sea and this is Mudeford Sandspit, a stretch of beautiful sandbanks, perfect for unrolling your towel and catching some rays. Connected to Mudeford Sandbank, you will find Christchurch harbour with its calm water, perfect for windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and so much more fun! And at the end of a long, fun-packed day, you can retire to one of the many surrounding restaurants such as the Haven House or The Noisy Lobster. The sandy Milford-On-Sea beach of Mudeford Sandspit also allows for dogs to play on its beach all year round.

Milford-On-Sea – Shingle Beach

Shingle Beaches are the most common type of beaches in and around Milford-On-Sea, made up of small pebbles and stones.

Milford-On-Sea beach is decorated with lovely beach huts that are available to hire and is perfect for swimming, fishing, water sports and bird watching. There are also toilets and car parking sites. Slightly west of the village is Hordle Cliff Beach, and at low tide a sand bar becomes exposed where you can enjoy refreshing drinks and bites to eat. If you head east from Milford-On-Sea, you’ll be greeted by Hurst Spit where you can enjoy the two-mile curve of shingle beach that will lead you to Hurst Castle – here, you can learn the interesting history behind the structure. Milford-On-Sea beach only allows dogs to play on its shingle out of season.

Fun tip – the water here has been given a five star rating by the Marine Conservation Society!

Calshot Beach – Shingle Beach

Visit Calshot Beach – a long stretch of shingle beach that is connected to a historic landmark that is Calshot Castle. The castle was built by King Henry VIII to defend the south coast. If it’s pumping adrenaline that you’re craving, then visit Calshot Activities Centre to check out their climbing and watersports activities. Expect fantastic views across the Solent of the Isle of Wight and a lovely landscape, decorated with dainty beach huts lined across the shore. The beach also has toilets, car parking facilities and is a great place for boat watching as cruise liners make their way in and out of Southampton Water. Keyhaven – Shingle Beach

And lastly, visit Keyhaven, a stunning nature reverse on the coast, covering nearly 500 acres between Lymington River and the village of Keyhaven. Why not make a game with the kids to see who can spot some wonderful wildlife here at the reserve. Hint: look out for foxtail stonewort, lagoon shrimp, starlet sea-anemone or a curlew Sandpiper. At Keyhaven, dogs are allowed to walk along the sea wall!

Lepe Beach & Country Park – Pebble Beach

Take the short car ride of 35 minutes to Lepe Beach & Country Park where visitors can see the Isle of Wight from the mile long stoney coastline. We recommend wearing sturdy boots whilst walking along these pine-fringed cliffs! It’s a great place for history lovers as there are D-Day remains and wartime defences present. The kids can run wild in the play area and between April 1st and October 31st, visitors can hire out a large barbecue, so you and the family can enjoy sizzling sausages with a view. Lepe Country Park is a great place to take your dog, although they’re not allowed on the beach during the main school summer holiday.
