Make merry at the Manor
Burley
Now we’re obviously biased, but we think Burley Manor takes some beating when it comes to Christmas breaks in the New Forest. Set in an 800-year-old estate, it embodies and epitomises all that is wonderful about the New Forest in winter – frosty mornings, roaring log fires, great food, drink – and great company.
Arriving on Christmas Eve, and after settling in and unpacking, you can truly sit back and start to relax. During the late afternoon, join us in the bar for a glass of mulled wine to celebrate. The first night is left open for you to plan, but we recommend reserving a table if you would like dinner with us.
The next morning – it’s ‘Christmaaaaaas’!! After you’ve opened at least a few pressies (we assume you were on the nice list), you can tuck into a full English or Continental breakfast. The rest of the morning can be spent opening more gifts, chilling out or enjoying the country air, sights and sounds, before you return for a traditional Christmas dinner. Take the afternoon to play some board games, read that new book you’ve just been given – and of course catch the King’s Speech. Boxing Day is the chance to unwind with more great food, country walks and ‘me time’. Enjoy another hearty winter’s breakfast before taking your wellies (and waggy tails if you’ve brought furry friends) around the forest. If you’d rather stay at the hotel and relax, or explore the countryside on your own, that’s fine.
Whatever you do, make sure you reserve a table for dinner. The 27th is time to head home and sadly bid adieu to Burley… but if you’re not quite ready for that, not a problem – leave the bags unpacked and spend the day exploring the 350 square miles of the fantastic New Forest.
