When planning a visit to the New Forest, there are two things you simply must consider; a walk or cycle of course. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a keen adventurer, with surroundings as picturesque as the open heathland, you will never fall short of routes to explore.
So, if you’re in search of a new walk or are looking for some fresh inspiration, look no further, as we have put a list together of our five favourites.
Happy Adventuring!
Burley Village to Long Pond
At 4.2 miles, this circular walk is perfect for history lovers, nature nurtures and animal whisperers. Starting close to Burley Village, breathe in the fresh air as you head on a gentle uphill climb, passing the Avon Valley and Ancient Hill Fort, before ascending back to Burley Village for a well-earned ice cream or hot toddy.
Beaulieu to Buckler’s Hard
Perfect for adventurers of all levels, the walk from Beaulieu Village to Buckler’s Hard covers a flat terrain of gravel and grass. At 2.2 miles each way, Buckler’s Hard is a perfect midpoint, rich in history it has many stories to tell. Originally where Lord Nelson built his warships in 1781, later turning into a WW2 motor torpedo base, you may wish to explore their museum before heading back to Beaulieu village, where ponies and donkeys love to say hello.
Cadnam’s Pool
A shorter walk at just 1.4 miles, this spot is perfect for those seeking a quick dose of fresh air. Starting in Linwood head towards Fritham and Cadnam’s Pool is only a short walk away. A great spot for picnics in the warmer months and to let the little ones burn off some energy.
Brockenhurst Village Walk
Starting at Brockenhurst Train Station, this 5-mile circular walk takes an average of 1 hour 45 minutes to complete, great for sunrise seekers or an afternoon stroll. Leading through the high street, why not stop off to explore the local boutiques before continuing on towards the Watersplash Ford. We recommend wearing wellies here, as the water often rises above ground level, so a little paddle may be required. Be on the lookout for our New Forest Ponies and Donkeys as they love making an appearance.
Brockenhurst to Lyndhurst
Suitable for seasoned walkers or those wishing to test their stamina, the Brockenhurst to Lyndhurst trail is the longest walk listed, at 9 miles. It starts at Hollands Wood and winds through to Beechen Lane in Lyndhurst. Our mischievous deer and ponies may come and say hello, but be sure to remember the New Forest Code and always act with caution around our New Forest Natives.
