How to use Pinterest to Plan your Wedding

Planning a wedding can be a difficult task. There are so many options and so many things to consider, knowing where to start is often the hardest part. That’s where our trusty friend ‘Pinterest’ comes in. A great tool to help you collate your wedding do’s and don’ts, likes and dislikes in one place, so you can start piecing your dream day together. But before you get carried away down a scroll hole of visual delights and breathtaking visuals, take a look below at our top tips and tricks on how to use Pinterest to plan your wedding.

Explore all your options

One of the greatest things about Pinterest is the plethora of inspiration on display. Our first top tip is to start by simply pinning images you like and that spark joy. Don’t confine yourself to a theme at this point as you may naturally find yourself leaning in a certain direction by the images you pin. Think decor, flowers, colours, venues, pin a broad spectrum of visuals and start building your day.

Scrolling, scrolling and more scrolling

The rabbit hole is real with Pinterest. But don’t scared, the algorithm is clever and will continue feeding you with new and exciting imagery based on your interests. This leads us onto our second tip, which is to keep the original search terms loose, find an image that fits and then the rabbit hole begins.

Create different boards

If you’re starting to feel overwhelmed, why not categorise your inspiration into boards. It is then far easier to go back and revisit some of your favourite pins. We would recommend five to six boards, think; Flowers, Colour Scheme, Venue, Decoration & Styling, Cake, Dress Code, Little Extras.

Take another look

Once you have a strong picture of your wedding likes and dislikes, it’s always a good idea to revisit your pins. Remove any which aren’t quite cutting it on second glance and begin piecing together a rough style and theme. Once your boards are complete, print them out or save individual photos. Keep them in a safe place and continue referring back as points of reference throughout your wedding planning journey.

Brief your Suppliers

Once you have chosen your wedding suppliers, Pinterest boards are a brilliant way to showcase your vision. Essentially your boards can become briefs to your florist, venue styling team, cake designer and the like. It is an incredibly easy way to translate your exact style, likes and dislikes, to your team of suppliers, avoiding any upset or disappointment down the line.

Keep it secret, keep it safe

The biggest and most important tip of all, is to keep your Pinterest boards a secret. It is the best feeling when you see your loved ones and guests experiencing the joy of your wedding for the first time. Keep your plans under wrap until the day, the big reveal will be worth it.
