Forest to Fork; World Water Day

New Forest spring water

After a long and winding February, we are back with Episode 2 of Forest to Fork. For the newbies out there or those who simply need a little reminder, Forest to Fork explores the unique and distinguishable relationship between New Forest Marque accredited suppliers, and those experiencing, first-hand, the authenticity of New Forest taste. Showcasing the process and long-lasting benefits of locally grown, reared, caught, and brewed produce, not only to one’s health but also the environment.

This time, in light of World Water Day, we are spotlighting our friends at New Forest Spring Water. We recently caught up with Simon Reed, Operations Director, to hear all about the behind-the-scenes of their business.

Simon is a part of a small team of five, who acquired New Forest Spring Water in 2011. It was the previous owners, fruit and vegetable farmers, who initially found water on the site many years before. Their curiosity for the New Forest, its surroundings and history inspired them to begin their search. Water was found once a 160ft borehole was drilled into the ground where an underwater aquifer running from the River Avon, 2-3 miles away, was discovered.

Fun Fact: The depth your water is found determines whether it is spring or mineral.

Simon was extremely enthusiastic to share the unique properties of New Forest Spring Water. Both spring and mineral water contain countless health benefits. Yet it is the methods used by Simon and his team to extract and filter their spring water which creates a thoroughly purified and natural product- free of additional fluoride and other additives.

During recent years, the clear shift in consumer buying behaviours has meant many now prioritise buying local produce from small, independent businesses, which is why Simon was eager to share their membership to the New Forest Marque. New Forest Spring Water welcome many locals to collect their water direct from the source for free, using their own recycled containers. Whilst visitors can purchase from an array of hotels such as New Forest Collection as well as Fuller’s Estate, Pensworth Diary and key locations within Bournemouth, Southampton and Salisbury.

We are proud to feature New Forest Spring Water across our collection. With many enjoying a refreshing glass after a busy day adventuring the forest or whilst putting their feet up to read a book. Why not try it for yourself this spring? Visit The Drift and enjoy in the garden on a bright spring day or over a plate of light bites. Book your table here.
