If there’s one thing the New Forest is known for, it’s the lush, green open spaces and fresh air in abundance – and Ringwood is no exception. There are some fantastic parks to visit in this area with your four-legged friends, family and the little ones too. Here are our four favourites.
Within a 10-minute drive from Ringwood you’ll find the glorious Moors Valley Country Park and Forest, with more than 1,000 acres of woodland and country park to enjoy. Whether you have a day of walking or cycling planned or something a little more relaxed like a picnic in the sunshine, this is an idyllic spot. Moors Valley Country Park and Forest also boasts several activities that are fun for the whole family, such as two large adventure play areas for the little ones; golf and pitch & putt for the competitive types; Go Ape and Segway hire; not to mention a model steam railway. Trust us when we say you’ll be entertained for hours in your day out here – with plenty of excuses to return soon. You’ll need to be kept fuelled for all these activities, but not to worry there’s a restaurant and ice-cream kiosk for afters too.
Another quaint and peaceful park well worth a visit is Jubilee Gardens. Surrounded by cedar trees and blooming flowers, this space is on West Street, just five minutes from Ringwood. This park is an ideal one for solo travellers or those looking for a little peace and quiet. Often referred to by visitors as a secret escape, this well kept area is surrounded by the sound of water thanks to its location near the River Avon which flows nearby.
Another popular choice for visitors to Ringwood is Avon Heath Country Park just eight minutes from the centre. Not only is this green space Dorset’s largest country park, but it’s also home to important heathland and rare wildlife. This is a great choice for families looking to explore an interesting part of the world. With a lovely children’s play area and nifty cafe with some incredible homemade bakes, cakes and a variety of hot drinks, not forgetting the delicious ice cream, it is a dream for parents looking to keep their kids entertained for a few hours.
If you’re looking to spend no more than an hour or two in a park in Ringwood, then The Danny Cracknell Pocket Park is ideal, as it’s nearby – just a few minutes’ walk away, and it’s a smaller space to explore. Grab a book, a hot drink or your trainers and get a breath of fresh air whilst taking in the open space in between a busy planned day. Being in close proximity to the river offers the perfect opportunity to close your eyes and take in the sounds of nature, escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
