Packing Tips for your New Forest Break

Couple taking dog for walk in New Forest

From well-deserved weekend retreats with your partner to action-packed adventures with your little and not-so-little ones, whatever the occasion, it’s important you come prepared. The New Forest is full of wonderful surprises and we wouldn’t want you to miss out because you forgot a few essentials. So, take a look below, make a few notes and enjoy your New Forest Break knowing you have everything you could need and want to make it your most memorable trip yet.

Wellies, Warmers & Waterproofs

We know what you’re thinking, isn’t this a given? It may sound a little obvious, however whether you visit in June or February, it’s important you come prepared for the occasional rain cloud or muddy puddle. After all, this is the New Forest.

Stay Hydrated

With an incredible array of walking routes available across the New Forest, one thing’s for certain; a water bottle is your best friend. Staying hydrated when exploring the heathland in essential. We have several water refill stations available across our Collection, so whether you’re staying with us or just walking past, don’t be afraid to just pop in and top up.

Picnic Please

Being in the great outdoors, soaking in plenty of fresh air tonic is wonderful for your self-esteem and general morale, but if lengthy walks aren’t your thing, picnicking is great too and there are several designated picnic spots throughout the National Park. Sticking to these areas will mean no unwanted visitors (naming no horsey names) will stop by. So remember, a good picnic blanket, perhaps a hamper and some comfortable camping chairs are a must of your packing list.

Doggy Essential

Furry friends are welcome throughout the New Forest, however when in open heathland they must remain on their lead, as the free-roaming fauna may become fearful or confused. It is also necessary to pick up all dog mess, as the chemicals within it can be hazardous to the New Forest cattle.

What 3 Words

What 3 words is an extremely handy app when exploring the New Forest and definitely worth downloading prior to your stay. We encourage everyone to stick to the paths, however if you are feeling a touch more adventurous, what 3 words is your best friend. It is a proprietary geocode system designed to identify any location with a resolution of about 3 metres, meaning whether you have signal or not you know where you are and how to get home.

Soak It In

With indoor swimming pools at Beaulieu Inn, Forest Lodge and Bartley Lodge, as well as a seasonal wellness pool at Burley Manor, make sure to bring your swimmers. After all, there’s no better way to relax after a long day of village strolls and heathland wandering, than with a warm dip.

Happy snapping

With so many incredible sites to see, a camera is a must on your New Forest break. We love seeing what our guests have been up to, so feel free to tag @newforestcollection when sharing on social media.
