Things To Do

There are a variety of fun things to do for all ages and amazing places to visit during a trip to Barton-on-Sea in the New Forest. We’ve done all the homework and formed a list of things to do. Take a read below.

Milford on Sea beach with beach huts

Life’s a beach

With not one but at least four fabulous sandy beaches in the area, a day at the seaside featuring ice cream, paddle boards, buckets and spades is a must during a visit. If you are after a quieter day then bring along that book you;ve been dying to finish. Our favourites include Mudeford Quay, Hengistbury Head Beach and Reserve and Highcliffe Beach in Dorset as well as Milford-on-sea Beach in Lymington.

National Motorcycle Museum in Barton on Sea

Planes, trains and automobiles

If you’re the kind of family who love learning new things during a family trip, then head on over to one of the museums in the area – ideal if the weather is cooler or rainy. The Motorcycle Museum in New Milton, Bournemouth Aviation Museum, St Barbe Museum and Gallery in Lymington, the Little Miniature Railway in Dorset or the Fort Victoria Model Railway in Yarmouth are all great suggestions.

Children riding down slide in trucks

Wild things

If it’s animals you’re hoping to get close to during a visit to Barton-on-Sea, then you’ll be pleased to know there’s ample opportunity for this. Book tickets for either the Island Planetarium or Tapnell Farm in Yarmouth, Liberty’s Owl, Raptor And Reptile Centre or Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary in Newton.

For those seeking a little thrill on vacation then the following activities will definitely be up your street. The Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre in Bransgore, ALTITUDE High Ropes Adventure in Bournemouth, Skiing and snowboarding at Snowtrax in Christchurch, Southcoast Karting in Ringwood or Slades Farm SkatePark in Bournemouth.

People paddle boarding

Out at sea

As you’re right on the coast you may want to catch some waves during your stay and there’s several options to suit all budgets and abilities here too. The New Forest Paddle Sport Company is a great starting point in Milford on Sea but for something a little more leisurely opt for the Lymington Sea Water Baths. There’s also Rockreef in Bournemouth jam-packed with water adventure activities.
