Fishing

With popular spots to rest your rod on the beach or lakes, New Milton is a haven for fishing trips where you’re likely to discover sole, brill, cod and the weever fish – the most commonly caught fish in New Milton. Choose from Highcliffe Beach, Avon Beach or Barton-on-Sea if your preference is to be near the seaside. For lakeside locations, it’s got to be Orchard Lakes, with 56 acres of farmland and five different lakes to fish on.

Shopping paradise

It’s worth mentioning that although most visit this part of the world to be outdoors, New Milton has a fab high street, and sometimes a spot of retail therapy is exactly what you need. From quirky gift shops such as G&T’s World of Cards and Gifts With A Smile; luxurious jewellery stores including Charles Nobel and Gem World; award-winning farm shops selling fresh local produce; and handy pet stores, pharmacies and clothing outlets, there really is something for everyone if a day’s shopping is on the cards.

The good news is you’ll be spoilt for choice, with beaches ideal for dog walks or a sandy spot to relax and catch some rays. Here’s our top five to start you off on the quest for the perfect beach setting: Barton-on-Sea Beach; Avon Beach in Dorset; Mudeford Sandbank; Taddiford Gap; and Hengistbury Head Beach.

Great outdoors

Grab your rucksack, your walking boots and set off into the great outdoors for a day of adventure and fresh air. From the coast, across ancient heathland or through forests beside the river, there are so many trails and paths to follow in New Milton on bike or foot!

Whether it’s from Hoburne Bashley to Burley (a 22k route), the well-known Hoburne Bashley loop (an 11k route), or for something a little easier there’s the sub-6k Highcliffe Castle – Mudeford Quay Loop from Highcliffe-on-Sea. There are ample opportunities to explore the great outdoors around New Milton.

Golf in the New Forest

Golfers’ delight

If you’re heading this way for a golf break then be sure to check out Barton-on-Sea Golf Club. This 18-hole course is ideal for all-year round golf and was founded in 1897. Located on the coastal cliff on the south coast of England between Christchurchand Lymington, it’s no wonder it’s so popular, with incredible views while you play.
