Artists’ Fairy Doors at Furzey Gardens

Yesterday saw the launch of Furzey Garden’s Artists’ Fairy Doors. A seasonal trail running throughout Furzey Gardens and the local community from 27th May to 3rd September.

A few team members had the joy of touring the garden, spotting the incredible array of doors on the trail. Each door has been beautifully hand crafted by an extremely talented array of local artists and in Minstead Trust’s supported workshops. The care, attention and theming of the doors were unmatched.

Having launched our Book Direct Benefit partnership with Furzey Gardens earlier this year, we were elated when asked if we would like to sponsor one of their Artists’ Fairy Doors. We jumped at the chance! The opportunity to support those with learning disabilities working at Furzey Gardens to maintain the gardens, raise plants and learn work skills, was one we could no pass on.

Threads of life spoke to us instantly. Crafted by Sue Badcrumble, it incorporates her love of patchwork, collage and mosaic into an unusual and vibrant wildlife-enriched design. Sue is a textile artists who loathes waste. Creating beautiful pieces from scraps, remnant and discard fabrics and vintage sewing-box notions.

Threads of life will be showcased in the New Forest Heritage Center located in Lyndhurst from today, Other community doors can be found at Hanger Farm Arts Centre, Hythe Pier, Cyclexperience and Rosie Lea House

We urge all to take a trip to Furzey Gardens this summer to spot the incredible array of Artists’ Doors on display.
