Spring in the New Forest

March, 2020

Make the most of your time in the New Forest National Park and explore the beautiful surroundings by foot or on two wheels. Wander off the beating track and admire the unique landscapes, or opt for a more tranquil stroll and stop off for a spot of lunch with one of our recommended walks or cycling routes.

FRITHAM WALK
One of the most popular walks within the New Forest with the chance of deer-spotting along the way, this walk takes you through three different enclosures and across the open heath of Fritham plain. A year-round highlight is looking north over Island Thorns and Amberwood enclosures on your way back. If you’ve seen Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, you’ll recognise the view of Sherwood Forest.

BEAULIEU – BUCKLERS HARD
This stretch of the Solent Way, which follows a section of the South Coast, offers two options: a riverside walk and a woodland walk, meaning that you can take one route there and another on the return journey. Enjoy the tranquil views of the Beaulieu River before reaching the scenic maritime village of Bucklers Hard and returning with a gentle woodland stroll.

BURLEY CIRCULAR
This circular route starts out at the Lucy Hill Car Park. Throughout this circular bike ride, you are likely to encounter fallow deer and New Forest ponies grazing in the ancient woodlands, a variety of trees and several different species of birds. This is a wonderful trail to follow and gives you a chance to take your time and enjoy the peacefulness of the countryside that surrounds us. Burley village is filled with quaint and interesting shops, eateries and pubs.

LEPE & EXBURY LOOP
This pleasant circular trail starts in Inchmery Lane in Lepe and takes in Exbury, East End Farm, Langley, Mopley Farm, and Badminston Common. This cycling route is one of our favourites for exploring a quieter, lesser known pocket of the New Forest. You’ll enjoy riding through light woodlands, farmland and big sky country as you venture along the gorgeous English country lanes. Take a worthwhile diversion and little pitstop at Exbury Gardens or Lepe Country Park.
