The festive season is finally here – Our trees are up and we are decorated from top to bottom. When the Christmas season comes around there is plenty of family fun to be had across the New Forest: from fun days for the whole family at our top attraction parks to long adventures through the woodlands, discover our top activities for this joyful time of year…


Beaulieu Motor Museum: Treat the family to a fantastic day out at Beaulieu, pose next to the colourful life-sized gingerbread house as you arrive, then follow the dazzling fairy lit pathway to Palace House to see preparations for a traditional Victorian Christmas in action. Sip on a glass of warming mulled punch while you soak in the festive atmosphere, with stunning decorations, welcoming log fires and a themed Christmas tree in each room.

And that’s not all: If you’re feeling artistic, visit a Victorian Montagu family member in the library to create homemade decorations, Christmas cards or Thank You cards. Choose to warm up your vocal cords and get that Christmassy feeling! Gather around the crackling log fire and piano in the Lower Drawing Room to join in with the traditional Christmas carols. For the adults, enjoy a glass of their mulled punch – perfect for warming up next to the fire! Make the most of the 6pm close on 9th, 10th, 16th & 17th December and see the stunning fairy-light lit pathway and giant outdoor Christmas tree at their best.


Paulton’s Park: Christmas is a special time of year at Paulton’s Park, from meeting Mr Claus himself in his magic grotto, experiencing the magical world of Pepper Pig in a beautiful festive setting and enjoying a selection of rides and attractions perfect for the whole family including Lost Kingdom and Critter Creek. You’ll even get the chance to join Rudolph on his journey to find Santa in time for Christmas Eve. You will meet many of Rudolph’s animal friends and be greeted by Santa himself in his magical grotto. Plus, all children will receive a gift and for the adults a delicious mug of hot punch and a festive foodie treat!


A winter walk through Wilverley Inclosure: One of the easiest walks to follow and plenty of benches along the way to take a seat and enjoy the views. This glorious woodland is also part of an expansive heathland with views for miles. Walk round the easy-to-follow loop path, see birds fluttering from tree to tree including the beautiful robins that nest here. This is the perfect adventure for your furry-friend too, just remember to wrap up warm as it can get a little chilly!


Winter paddling at The Old Forge, Beaulieu: Choose between single seater kayaks or 2/3 seater canoes for a full two hour guided tour out on the water. The Beaulieu River offers up some stunning sights throughout the winter with plenty of fun despite the chilly season!


Exbury Gardens: Join Exbury Gardens this December and visit specially selected areas of the gardens free of charge and take part in their festive tree trail! On the 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th December, Yard Wood will be open from 10am -4pm for everyone to enjoy, be sure to keep your eyes peeled as you may even bump into Father Christmas!

There will also be ‘Postal Express’ trains running from 10:30am – 3:30pm where children will be able to post a picture they have drawn for Santa before hopping aboard the train – at the end of each day a three winners will be chosen!

Whilst on the Postal Express journey, you’ll get the chance to see some beautiful sights of the gardens as well as some of your favourite Christmas characters. Afterwards, join the elves in The Tea Rooms to really feel the festive spirit. Here children will be able to delve into Christmas crafts and seasonal delights will be on the menu from mulled wine, mince pies and tasty hot turkey rolls!
