National Pet Month
A New Forest Holiday with your Furry-Friend
You all know that here at New Forest Hotels we love greeting both you and your furry-friends and as its National Pet Month we’ve put together the best places to take your pooch during spring.
Once you’re all settled into your room, get your wellies or walking boots on and head out to our surrounding heathlands and woodlands. You can ask our reception for their recommended walking route or head onto The New Forest and search through thousands of routes all across the National Park. You can find routes tailored to the adventure you and your pooch require, whether that be a long walk or a short leisurely stroll, you’ll be able to find just what you need.
From the 1st of March to 31st of July it is important to keep your dogs on a short lead on common and downland as about a quarter of birds in the New Forest nest and raise their chicks on the ground.
If your furry-friend is on the smaller side and you’d prefer to cycle then CycleXperience located in Brockenhurst have a few dog trailers, booking in advance is highly recommended as they don’t have many. These trailers attach to the back of the bike and allow your doggy to enjoy the New Forest in a more relaxed and easy-going way. Though, a bit more hard-work for you! Again, the team at CycleXperience can tailor a route to suit all your needs. They have routes that are flat, traffic free and easy to follow.
Across the New Forest there are also a lot of dog friendly attractions, as long as they’re on a lead, including Exbury Gardens, Lepe Country Park, Moors Valley, New Forest Centre, Reptile Centre and Beaulieu Motor Museum, but they’re not allowed in the buildings or on any of the rides!
All dogs are welcome in the local towns and villages on a short lead and are even welcome in some shops and cafes – Just remember to ask before entering.
Fancy a relaxing afternoon after a walk, cycle or visiting an attraction? Then why not pop into our sister pub, The Drift Inn. Let your pup stretch out in the pub garden, enjoy a few treats and a bowl of water whilst you choose a refreshing tipple and one of our delicious pub classics. We also have dog towels available, copious amounts of cuddles and attention!
