The Capital of the New Forest…

Known as the capital of the New Forest since William the Conqueror established it as a royal hunting ground in 1079, Lyndhurst is home to not only our Forest Lodge Hotel but many a hidden gem. It has been visited by Kings and Queens throughout the centuries and is filled with plenty of history to unfold.

There’s no better starting point for visitors than the centrally located New Forest Museum, in which you will find a unique guide into the forest’s history and heritage. Towering over the skyline is the pre-Raphaelite church of St Michael and All Angels where the grave of former Lyndhurst resident Alice Liddell lies – Lewis Carroll’s inspiration for Alice in Wonderland!

Take a stroll and discover all that Lyndhurst has to offer, including a wide range of shops, cosy tea rooms, old world pubs, café’s and fine restaurants to relax in – not forgetting the tranquil scenes of the surrounding forest.

Uncover the beauty of the local countryside on foot. A walk in the nearby forest can be enjoyed all year around with views of pony manicured grass and local wildlife galore! Catch a glimpse of deer, rabbit or fox as well as the more familiar local ponies and cattle. Explore parts of the route that cross open countryside, boasting stunning hues of purple heather and ancient woodland trees.

We love our local New Forest village and invite you to join us in Lyndhurst at our Forest Lodge Hotel. Escape to us for a relaxing break filled with new experiences for the whole family to savour!
