Happy Halloween
Mon 31 October 2011
Burley was more of a buzzing metropolis than a sleepy hollow this weekend with the Halloween activities taking place in every possible corner of the village!
There was a pumpkin carving competition where people were carving works of art out of the giant squashes , apple and jelly bobbing, fancy dress competition (everywhere you looked were witches, wizards and devils!!) and live music on the roof of the Coven of Witches gift shop. This was before people wondered up to the exhibition we were holding at Moorhill House Hotel.
Darren Canning, the assistant manager at our Burley hotel, has spent many months researching this fascinating white witch and put together the most remarkable exhibition to celebrate her life and works.
More than 150 people made the short walk to the hotel to appreciate Darren’s efforts and were not disappointed! The exhibition was written as much as possible in Sybil’s own words to give people the opportunity to really get to know her. There was an interview playing of Sybil which you could sit and watch and a quiz for children to join in with. Not to mention the scary biscuit treats and delicious pumpkin soup!
If you weren’t able to make it to the exhibition take a look at some of the photos in our
gallery.
