New Forest food fair promotes local produce
Tue 29 March 2011
The first New Forest Marque Trade Fair held at our Beaulieu Hotel, was a great success on Monday.
Our doors were opened to over 80 guests who came to tuck in to some mouth-watering food at the fair that showcased all kinds of produce with the New Forest Marque stamp.
Many farmers and producers gathered at our forest retreat to prove that vegetables, fruit, bread, dairy goods and meat can all be found on our doorsteps and at affordable prices.
The Beaulieu Suite looked like a buzzing farmers market with stalls all around and guests keen to sample the food and talk with the producers about their farms and animals.
The afternoon was rounded up with a tempting fork buffet using a selection of fresh produce from the suppliers, created by Beaulieu Hotel Head Chef, Mike Mckell. The dishes included a vegetarian kedgeree with roasted walnuts and Earlmaur Shellfish seafood paella.
Sarah Richards from the New Forest Marque commented "The producers and farmers have loved having the opportunity to meet with other local businesses and members of the public to demonstrate what great food is available from the Forest. Events, such as these, go a long way in encouraging people to support farmers in our community."
