Pork to go...
Mon 01 August 2011
Ben Cartwright, Head Chef at our Moorhill House Hotel in Burley, inspired locals and visitors alike at the New Forest Show, as he demonstrated how to cook mouth watering pork dishes from local produce, at the New Forest Marque food demonstration area last week.
Ben gave away some of his recipes and secret tricks of the trade as he showed the audience how to cook a pork pate with a hint on Burley cider and succulent slow roasted pork belly on a crisp wafer of pork crackling and topped with a bramley apple compote.
Ben talked the gripped spectators through preparing a pork belly to the presentation of the final dish. The noises of appreciation coming from the spectators once they got to sample the food was evidence enough that at least some of them would take home the recipe and have a go themselves.
Approximately 95,000 people went through the gates at the New Forest Show last week and a huge number of them stopped to see Ben's cooking demonstration and to chat to us at our stand, sample our tasty treats made by our chefs (including sticky toffee cake and fudge) enter our competition to win a family stay at one of our hotels (as well as lots of other prizes) and to come and see what we have been up to in the last year.
The weather was kind to the show and gave the guests the opportunity to wander around at their leisure and take in all the sites and shows, including the motorcycle stunt riders. TV vet Joe Inglis held his vet’s kitchen health scan roadshow and Bob Hogg’s sheep dog demonstration took pride of place in the sheep section. There was so much to see an do, besides visit us, that you could come again next year and still not get to see everything!
We hope to see you there again next year and don’t forget all our hotels are in ideal spots for accommodation for the show!
