Our Agister rooms are named after the Agisters who work on the forest to look after the Commoners animals. Commoners are those families who farm and live on the forest and hold commoning rights over it. Commoner’s animals browse and graze on the forest and they create the unique landscape that you see.
There are five Agisters in the New Forest and they are employed by the Verderers. They are all commoners with an excellent knowledge of the forest, experts at handling live stock and skilled riders.
The Agisters conduct the "drifts" when ponies are rounded up into pounds for foal branding, worming and tail marking. Ponies tails are cut into 1 of 4 marks (dependent upon the jurisdiction of the particular Agister) to show that their fees have been paid.
Agisters are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to deal with calls regarding any problems with the forest animals in their area.
Our Beaulieu Hotel Agister rooms are our standard bedrooms which have ensuite shower / bathrooms, flat screen televisions with free view channels, ironing board and iron, complimentary toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities.
